Transporters are urgently calling for the release of their commercial container vehicles, which they claim were confiscated by the Islamabad Police to prepare for an upcoming political sit-in. They strongly argue that assets meant for trade and business should not be commandeered for political purposes.
Muhammad Owais Chaudhry, representing the transporters, condemned the police’s actions as unacceptable. He emphasized that the transport community has no involvement in political demonstrations and that their vehicles are strictly meant to facilitate commercial operations. By seizing these trucks, authorities are unfairly disrupting trade and creating severe logistical and financial hardships for the vehicle owners, especially by holding the containers in remote locations.
Chaudhry urged the government to permanently end the practice of using private business vehicles for state or political needs. Furthermore, he demanded a transparent investigation into both the vehicle seizures and the surfacing allegations of bribery related to their release. He noted that the forced takeover of commercial assets by state institutions creates a damaging impression of state coercion, reiterating the demand for the immediate, unconditional return of all impounded vehicles.
