The main section of the Rawalpindi Ring Road (RRR) has reached 99% completion, according to a recent statement by Salman Ghani, the Commissioner of the Rawalpindi Division. Following a comprehensive tour of the construction sites, Ghani issued directives to the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) to expedite the remaining tasks. These finishing touches include finalizing drains, retaining walls, and the interchange ramps, all while strictly adhering to established engineering standards.
During the inspection, the commissioner emphasized the need to keep the temporary M-2 Motorway link at the Thalian Interchange open, along with the ramps heading toward Lahore, to accommodate commuters until the final interchange is ready. A solid traffic management strategy is also being enforced to ensure travelers experience minimal disruptions.
Looking ahead, authorities are planning to introduce a Single Network Tolling System for the RRR, managed by the FWO. Once fully operational, this mega-project is expected to significantly reduce urban congestion in Rawalpindi, enhance regional connectivity, and stimulate local economic growth. The Punjab government has reiterated its strict stance on avoiding any unnecessary delays in such crucial development initiatives.
