October Electricity Bills to Carry Rs 1.11 Per-Unit Fuel Adjustment
Eligible electricity consumers will pay an additional Rs 1.1086 per unit—approximately Rs 1.11—in their October 2026 bills following approval of a fuel cost adjustment by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority.
The adjustment relates to electricity consumed in August 2026. Its amount will therefore depend on eligible August units, rather than October consumption.
Why the Adjustment Was Approved
NEPRA approved the charge to account for the difference between the actual and reference fuel costs for August.
The regulator assessed the actual fuel cost at Rs 8.2084 per unit, compared with a reference cost of Rs 7.0998. The difference produces the approved Rs 1.1086 adjustment.
This is lower than the Rs 1.7267 per unit initially requested by the Central Power Purchasing Agency-Guarantee.
Which Consumers Will Pay?
The adjustment applies to eligible consumers served by ex-Wapda distribution companies and K-Electric.
The specified exemptions cover:
- Lifeline consumers.
- Electric vehicle charging stations.
- Prepaid electricity consumers who opted for prepaid tariffs.
Electricity consumed under the incremental consumption package is also subject to the adjustment.
What It Could Add to a Bill
For an eligible consumer with 300 units billed for August, the adjustment alone would amount to approximately Rs 332.58.
At 500 eligible units, it would be approximately Rs 554.30.
These examples show only the fuel adjustment. They do not represent the complete bill or include any applicable taxes and other charges.
When the Charge Will Appear
The adjustment is scheduled for October 2026 billing. If a bill was issued before the decision’s formal notification, the charge may instead appear in the following month.
Consumers checking the amount should use their August billed units and confirm whether their tariff category qualifies for an exemption.
