OpenAI Launches Decisions API With Up to 10x Faster Answers
OpenAI has introduced its Decisions API in public beta, offering developers a faster way to turn text and images into structured decisions.
Released on October 6, the service uses GPT-6 Luna. OpenAI describes it as delivering answers about 10 times faster than the Responses API for its intended decision tasks.
Three Types of Answers
The API supports three output formats:
- Predicates: Estimate the probability that a condition is true.
- Choices: Select from predefined options.
- Scores: Evaluate an input against a numerical range or rubric.
These formats let applications use the results directly when sorting content, selecting an action or assessing an input.
Uses in Everyday Applications
Developers can use the service to route customer requests, classify documents or prioritise work.
For example, an application could assign a billing complaint to the appropriate department or evaluate a product photograph for visible damage.
Public Beta Availability
GPT-6 Luna is currently the only model available through the Decisions API. Developers can experiment with inputs and questions in OpenAI’s Playground before integrating it into applications.
The advertised speed improvement concerns this decision-focused service. It should not be interpreted as a guarantee that every OpenAI task or ChatGPT response becomes 10 times faster.
