Lahore Basant Set for March 12–14, 2027 Under Safety Rules
Lahore’s three-day Basant celebration is scheduled for March 12–14, 2027, after the district administration formally approved kite-flying for those dates under specified safety rules.
The Lahore deputy commissioner’s notification allows kite-flying only with permitted materials and outside designated prohibited areas. Kite and string manufacturers, traders and sellers must register with the deputy commissioner; sales to the public are to be handled by registered sellers during the notified period.
The rules restrict kite string to cotton and prohibit charkhis, nylon string, metallic wire and sharp or otherwise injurious coatings. Motorcyclists must follow government safety measures, including installing safety rods. Kite-flying is also barred in designated aircraft approach and take-off zones.
The March dates return Basant to its earlier three-day schedule after a separate 10-day plan for late January and early February had been announced. The latest notification sets the permitted dates and restrictions for Lahore; it does not authorize kite-flying elsewhere in Punjab.
Authorities have urged residents to observe the safety requirements. The event’s conduct will depend on compliance with the rules and enforcement by district officials and police.
