Punjab Outdoor Drone Ban Imposed for 30 Days

LAHORE, October 29, 2026 — The Punjab government has imposed a 30-day Punjab outdoor drone ban across the province, citing security concerns. The order was issued under Section 144(6) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898, according to The Nation.

However, the order allows some exceptions. Small drones may be used inside halls and marquees for event coverage. Intelligence and law enforcement agencies are also exempt.

What the Punjab drone ban covers

The restriction applies to drone flights in open spaces across Punjab. Meanwhile, district administrations and police have been directed to enforce the order.

The Home Department has also set up district-level Safe Drone Usage Committees. As a result, people seeking to use drones for agriculture, irrigation or research must first get written permission from the relevant committee, according to The News and Dunya News.

Indoor event use has limited allowance

Small drones may still be used to cover events inside halls and marquees. However, organisers are responsible for their safe operation during those events.

The ban does not apply to drones used by intelligence and law enforcement agencies. In addition, authorised agricultural, irrigation and research flights may be allowed with written committee approval.

Security concerns cited for the order

The Home Department imposed the restriction because of security concerns, reports say. At the same time, the order directs local administrations and police to ensure it is followed.

The 30-day period begins from the date specified in the notification. The news reports reviewed did not provide a specific end date. Therefore, drone users should check with their district administration or the relevant committee before flying.
