Huawei Mate 90 Launches With Kirin 9030, 100x Zoom and HarmonyOS 7
Huawei has launched the Huawei Mate 90 in China as the standard model in its new flagship smartphone family, bringing a redesigned exterior, upgraded XMAGE cameras, a Kirin 9030 processor and a larger 6,600mAh battery.
The smartphone runs HarmonyOS 7 and incorporates a growing range of AI-powered photography, content-management and assistant features as Huawei continues developing its own hardware and software ecosystem.
Official pricing starts at 5,999 yuan for the 12GB RAM and 256GB storage version. Huawei began selling the Mate 90 in China on October 1, 2026.
For now, Huawei has not announced a confirmed Pakistan launch date or official Pakistani price for the Mate 90.
Huawei Mate 90 Gets a New Design
Huawei has refreshed the Mate series design while retaining the large circular rear camera module that has become closely associated with its flagship smartphones.
The Mate 90 measures 161.9 × 75.7 × 7.95mm and weighs approximately 217 grams, including the battery.
Huawei offers the standard Mate 90 in four colors:
- Lattice Green
- Lattice Pink
- Zero White
- Obsidian Black
The Green and Pink versions feature Huawei’s new lattice-pattern finish, which uses a textured rear design to distinguish them from the more conventional White and Black versions.
Huawei has also strengthened the device using its latest durability architecture and third-generation Kunlun Glass.
6.75-Inch LTPO OLED Display
The Mate 90 features a 6.75-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2832 × 1280 pixels.
Its LTPO panel can dynamically adjust its refresh rate between 1Hz and 120Hz, allowing the phone to reduce power consumption when a high refresh rate is unnecessary while still providing smoother scrolling and animations when required.
The display also supports:
- 1-120Hz adaptive LTPO refresh rate
- 1440Hz high-frequency PWM dimming
- 300Hz touch sampling
- 1.07 billion colors
- P3 wide color gamut
- Third-generation Kunlun Glass
Huawei’s official specifications confirm these display characteristics.
IP68 and IP69 Water Resistance
Durability is another area where Huawei is making unusually strong claims.
The Mate 90 carries both IP68 and IP69 protection ratings.
Huawei says its IP68 testing includes immersion in fresh water at a depth of up to six metres for 30 minutes under controlled laboratory conditions.
The IP69 rating covers resistance to high-temperature and high-pressure water jets.
These ratings do not make the phone completely waterproof, and Huawei notes that water resistance can decline through normal wear.
Kirin 9030 Powers the Mate 90
At the centre of the Mate 90 is Huawei’s Kirin 9030 processor.
Huawei says the combination of the Kirin 9030 and HarmonyOS 7 delivers an overall performance improvement of around 27% compared with the previous-generation Mate 80.
The company is also highlighting hardware-assisted ray tracing, claiming the processor can render as many as 31 million rays per second in supported gaming scenarios.
Unlike some third-party reports, Huawei’s official specifications do not disclose a conventional semiconductor process-node designation for the Kirin 9030.
It is therefore better not to present an unofficial manufacturing-process claim as a confirmed Huawei specification.
12GB RAM With Up to 1TB Storage
All standard Mate 90 configurations include 12GB of RAM.
Buyers can choose between:
- 256GB storage
- 512GB storage
- 1TB storage
There is no memory-card expansion, according to Huawei’s specifications.
The generous internal-storage options reflect the Mate 90’s positioning as a premium flagship, particularly for users recording large amounts of high-resolution photography and video.
Upgraded Triple XMAGE Camera System
Photography remains one of the Mate series’ major selling points.
The Huawei Mate 90 uses a three-camera rear system built around RYYB sensors.
The primary camera is a 50MP sensor with optical image stabilization and a continuously variable f/1.4-f/4.0 aperture.
It is accompanied by:
- 40MP RYYB ultrawide camera
- 50MP RYYB telephoto camera with OIS
- Third-generation Red Maple color camera
Huawei says the telephoto system provides approximately 4x optical zoom, 8x optical-quality zoom and up to 100x digital zoom.
The continuously adjustable aperture on the main camera allows the phone to control how much light reaches the sensor and influence depth of field depending on the scene.
What Is Huawei’s Red Maple Camera?
The additional Red Maple camera is designed primarily to improve color reproduction rather than operate like another traditional wide or telephoto camera.
Huawei says its third-generation Red Maple primary-color system helps the phone reproduce skin tones and scene colors more naturally.
It works together with the company’s XMAGE imaging system, particularly for portrait photography.
Huawei is also using AI-assisted composition and pose recommendations. The camera can suggest positioning for group photographs and assist with framing depending on the scene.
100x Zoom Doesn’t Mean 100x Optical Zoom
The distinction between optical and digital zoom is important.
The Mate 90 offers approximately 4x optical zoom, while Huawei describes 8x as “optical-quality” zoom.
The headline 100x figure is digital zoom.
Digital magnification relies on cropping and image processing, so users should not expect a 100x image to have the same detail as a photograph captured at the lens’ native optical focal length.
Huawei’s combination of high-resolution sensors and computational processing is intended to preserve as much usable detail as possible at longer zoom levels.
13MP Selfie Camera With 3D Depth Sensing
On the front, Huawei has installed a 13MP ultrawide autofocus camera alongside a dedicated 3D depth-sensing camera.
The system supports 3D facial recognition in addition to photography and video functions.
Both the front and rear systems support recording at up to 4K resolution.
The phone also retains a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, giving users an alternative biometric authentication method.
HarmonyOS 7 Brings More AI Features
The Mate 90 ships with HarmonyOS 7, Huawei’s latest operating system.
Huawei has expanded the capabilities of its Xiaoyi digital assistant, including tools that can organise saved information, manage tasks, assist with calls and interact with content displayed on the screen.
The phone also includes AI-assisted creative functions such as:
- AI photography suggestions
- AI-assisted composition
- 3D moving photos
- Natural-language photo editing
- Natural-language video creation
- AI-assisted media search and organisation
- AI voice detection for calls
Huawei says its photo-editing system can recognise subjects and scenes and recommend editing options, while its video tools can use selected media to help create short videos.
One distinction is worth making: although some reports describe the Mate 90 as emphasizing “on-device AI,” Huawei’s official material describes these features more broadly as HarmonyOS AI and integrated device-software-cloud capabilities.
Huawei has not clearly stated that every AI operation listed for the Mate 90 is processed entirely on the handset.
AI Voice Detection Targets Scam Calls
One of the more interesting security features is AI voice-change detection.
Huawei says the system can detect manipulated or artificially altered voices during audio and video calls, potentially helping users identify attempts in which scammers impersonate another person.
The growing use of generative AI and voice-cloning tools has made impersonation increasingly relevant for smartphone security, so features of this kind could become more common among flagship devices.
6,600mAh Battery
The Mate 90 carries a 6,600mAh battery, a relatively large capacity for a mainstream flagship smartphone.
Charging support includes:
- 66W wired Huawei SuperCharge
- 50W wireless charging
- 5W wired reverse charging
- Wireless reverse charging
Huawei confirms both the 6,600mAh typical battery capacity and charging specifications on its official product page.
The phone therefore prioritises battery capacity over chasing the extremely high wired-charging speeds offered by some competing Chinese smartphones.
Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0 and Satellite Messaging
Connectivity is another strong part of the specification sheet.
The Mate 90 supports:
- Wi-Fi 7
- Bluetooth 6.0
- NFC
- Huawei NearLink E2.0
- eSIM
- USB-C with USB 3.1 Gen 1 support
- GPS and multiple satellite-navigation systems
Huawei also includes BeiDou satellite messaging, although the company specifically states that the satellite-messaging functionality is currently limited to mainland China and requires compatible services.
This limitation matters for anyone considering importing the phone into Pakistan.
Huawei Mate 90 Price
Huawei’s official Chinese pricing is:
| Variant | China Price |
|---|---|
| 12GB + 256GB | 5,999 yuan |
| 12GB + 512GB | 6,999 yuan |
| 12GB + 1TB | 8,499 yuan |
All three versions went on sale in China from October 1, 2026.
The base price is approximately $895 based on launch-day conversions reported in international coverage, although exchange rates vary.
Huawei Mate 90 Price in Pakistan
Huawei has not announced an official Mate 90 price or release date for Pakistan as of October 1, 2026.
Huawei’s Pakistan website does not currently list the Mate 90 as a locally launched handset.
Any Pakistani prices currently appearing on unofficial websites should therefore be treated as estimates or importer pricing rather than an official Huawei Pakistan MSRP.
Similarly, buyers considering importing the Chinese version should check network compatibility, software ecosystem requirements, warranty coverage and PTA registration costs before purchasing.
HarmonyOS 7 Is an Important Consideration Outside China
The Mate 90 launches with Huawei’s increasingly independent HarmonyOS ecosystem.
For users in China, Huawei has been rapidly expanding its native application ecosystem. Reuters reported at the Mate 90 series launch that HarmonyOS now supports more than 450,000 applications.
International buyers, however, should not assume the software experience is identical to that of conventional Android phones with Google Mobile Services.
That may be particularly relevant for Pakistani buyers who depend heavily on Google applications and services.
Potential import buyers should therefore confirm their required apps and services before purchasing a China-market unit.

How the Mate 90 Fits Into Huawei’s New Flagship Lineup
The standard Mate 90 sits below the Mate 90 Pro, Mate 90 Pro Max and Mate 90 RS Ultimate Design.
The wider family introduces even more powerful Kirin processors and higher-end camera hardware on premium variants.
Huawei officially lists Mate 90 series models ranging from the 5,999-yuan standard phone to much more expensive Pro Max and RS configurations.
The standard Mate 90 therefore appears designed to deliver most of the core flagship experience — including the new design, XMAGE camera technology, HarmonyOS 7 and a large battery — at the lowest entry price in the family.
Bottom Line
The Huawei Mate 90 brings meaningful upgrades across the areas that have traditionally defined Huawei’s flagship phones.
It combines a Kirin 9030 processor, 6.75-inch 120Hz LTPO OLED display, 50MP variable-aperture main camera, 50MP telephoto lens, 6,600mAh battery and HarmonyOS 7 in a package starting at 5,999 yuan in China.
Huawei is also putting greater emphasis on AI-assisted photography, media creation, communication and security, although claims that all of these features operate entirely on-device should be treated cautiously unless Huawei provides more detailed technical information.
For Pakistani buyers, the biggest unanswered question is availability. Huawei has not yet announced an official Mate 90 launch or price for Pakistan, meaning imported units may arrive before any official local release.
