NCCIA Arrests 89 Suspects in Raids on Alleged Scam Centres
The NCCIA arrests 89 suspects during raids on four alleged call and scam centres in Lahore and Karachi. The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency says the operations targeted suspected fraud against people overseas. The arrests took place on October 28, according to Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) and Dawn.
Where the NCCIA arrested 89 suspects
In Lahore, the NCCIA arrested 42 people, including 11 women, during raids on three alleged call centres. The agency said the sites were in Garden Town, Gulberg and OPF Society.
Investigators seized 67 laptops, 50 mobile phones and two server systems in Lahore. According to the agency, the centres allegedly offered fake telecom packages, mobile phone upgrades and SIM-related services to overseas customers.
Meanwhile, in Karachi, the NCCIA arrested 47 people at an alleged scam centre on Shahrah-e-Faisal. The agency said callers allegedly obtained foreign customers’ banking details through deceptive calls and misused their financial data.
Officers seized 50 laptops, 26 mobile phones, a desktop computer and other digital material in Karachi. In addition, Dawn reported that five other suspects were named in the case but had not been arrested.
Investigations and legal process continue
The NCCIA said it would examine the seized devices and documents as part of its investigation. In Lahore, investigators are looking into the suspects’ alleged roles and financial transactions. The agency also said initial checks of material from one site found dialer software and data linked to suspected activity.
In Karachi, the court granted the agency three days of custody for questioning, Dawn reported. However, an arrest or allegation does not establish guilt. Investigators must assess the evidence, and the cases must proceed through the legal process.
The operation adds to recent NCCIA actions against suspected call-centre fraud. Still, the agency has not publicly established the full scale of the alleged networks or any final findings from these latest raids. Further details may emerge as forensic checks and investigations continue.
