Meta’s AI Funding Plan Grows to Potential $97.5 Billion
Meta has expanded its planned equity fundraising to as much as $97.5 billion as it invests in artificial intelligence infrastructure and new AI products.
The company initially outlined a plan of about $95 billion on October 26. That plan combined approximately $35 billion in public stock offerings with a separate at-the-market share program of up to $60 billion. Reuters reported the next day that Meta had increased the planned common-stock offering, lifting the potential total to $97.5 billion.
The amount is a fundraising target, not money already raised.
What the financing plan includes
Meta’s initial announcement described two parts to the plan:
- About $35 billion in concurrent public offerings, initially comprising roughly $22.5 billion in Class A common stock and $12.5 billion in depositary shares representing mandatory convertible preferred stock.
- A planned at-the-market program of up to $60 billion in Class C common stock.
Reuters reported that the planned common-stock sale was later increased, bringing the total potential fundraising to $97.5 billion. Meta’s initial announcement said the future at-the-market program would follow the start of trading in its new Class C shares, expected in the first quarter of 2027. The company said the timing and terms of that program had not been finalized.
Funding AI infrastructure and products
Meta says the plan supports continued investment in AI infrastructure and personal superintelligence. In its announcement, the company also pointed to AI-related opportunities in consumer and business agents, enterprise services and AI glasses.
Meta expects capital expenditures of $135 billion to $145 billion in 2026, according to its investor release. The company said it intends to fund investments through a mix of operating cash flow, investment-grade debt, strategic partnerships and equity.
Fundraising is not guaranteed
The eventual amount will depend on the offerings and planned share program. Meta said there was no assurance that it would establish the at-the-market program on the announced terms, or sell the full amount of shares under it.
