Rs17 Billion N-45 Highway Project in KP Moves to ECNEC

Rs17 Billion N-45 Highway Project in KP Recommended for Final Review

A Rs17.012 billion project to improve and widen a section of National Highway N-45 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has moved to the next stage of review.

The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) recommended the project to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) for consideration at its October 26 meeting, according to the government’s announcement.

The proposed work covers the 39-kilometre Chakdara–Timergara section of N-45. The project aims to upgrade a road corridor linking Chakdara, Timergara, Dir and Chitral.

What the highway project includes

The project is described as an improvement and widening scheme. The government announcement puts its estimated cost at Rs17.012 billion and says it is to be financed through foreign funding via Exim Bank.

The road forms part of the N-45 route through Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The government says the upgrade is intended to support connectivity, trade, road safety and tourism in the region, including routes toward Kalash, Shandur and Kumrat.

ECNEC consideration is the next step

The CDWP’s recommendation sends the project to ECNEC for final consideration. The announcement does not give a construction start date or a revised completion schedule.

The National Highway Authority (NHA) has previously been identified as the executing agency for the Chakdara–Timergara section. A 2021 government announcement recorded a Korean Exim Bank loan agreement for the project. The latest cost estimate and ECNEC referral are the current details released by the government.
