Karachi Commissioner Reviews Encroachment Drive, Plans Designated Tea Stall Spaces
Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi chaired a district administration meeting on October 5 to review roadside encroachments and unauthorised hotel seating.
He expressed dissatisfaction with efforts to address the difficulties these obstructions create for motorists and pedestrians.
Tea Stalls to Be Regulated
The meeting decided that tea stalls would not be permitted on main roads. Town Councils will be asked to propose suitable open spaces within towns or union councils.
Permits would be issued in consultation with the councils.
District Officials Report Operations
Deputy commissioners reported 36 anti-encroachment operations in South, 31 in Korangi, 18 in Central, 13 in East, nine in West and five in Malir.
Officials also reviewed enforcement against unauthorised hotel seating, including confiscation of furniture and sealing of establishments.
District performance reports were assessed through the Commissioner Portal, while assistant commissioners joined the meeting by video link.
